6TH UNITED STATES CAVALRY REGIMENT

The 1st North carolina Cavalry regiment will, on occasion, be portraying and reenacting the famous 6TH U.S. CAVALRY REGIMENT. The "6TH" was stationed in the state of California before and after the war. This fact, and the fact that we live in california, is the reason why we are portraying this unit. The "6TH" was also involved in many battles during the war on the east coast. After you have acquired your confederate eguipment and uniform parts (preferably a grey shell jacket and light blue trousers), we encourage you to acquire your navy blue shell jacket or sackcoat and possibly a blue kepi if you are not wearing a slouch hat. Slouch hats were worn by both sides. With your slouch hat, light blue trousers and everything else being standard for both armies, it would not be a problem in switching armies by taking one shell jacket off and replacing it with another of a different color.
