Tar Heel of the Month!

"Committed to "the Cause"
This prestigious 1st North Carolina Cavalry Regimental Website Award for the month of March is presented to our fellow trooper and comrade,  Acting Corporal Jeff Gibson.  Congratulations Trooper Gibson!

This is what Acting Cpl. Gibson had to say:

"I became interested in the Civil War when we began studing it in my 8th grade US history class.  I was the General for our side of the classroom in the big "Civil War" game.  Of course, we were the South, and of course we won the war.  After that I started to check out books from the school library and read up on the subject.  I also began to paint small Civil War figurines.  One day my uncle gave me a flier for a re-enactment goin on at Hart Park.  While there I picked up a 1st North Carolina Cavalry flier.  After seeing a battle, I decided that this was just the type of thing that I had been looking for.   I filled out the flier, sent it to Major Dave Acevedo Pitre, and the rest is history.  My favorite part of re-enacting? Honoring those that fought by teaching the public what they fought for."

Trooper Gibson's other interest include drumming and portraying an 1880's gambler.  His future plans includes college and a tour of duty with the U.S. Army.

Acting Cpl. Jeff Gibson is 16 years old and is a junior at Canyon High in Santa Clarita, California.  Jeff has now been reenacting for a year and a half (since Sept. 1997).  His first event was at Follows Camp in Azusa.  Jeff has developed and has honed his Civil War impression to a very high degree and has done so in a very short period of time. He has learned the school of the soldier and cavalry tactics to the point where he is now teaching veterans within his Company and the Regiment.   Jeff continues to be a major "player" in the construction of the fortifications at Follows Camp.  His remarkable service record has earned him the rank of Corporal without question, and has earned him the title of Tarheel of the Month!  At this rate Cpl. Gibson may well become the first "boy General" since the Civil War.  Three cheers for a job well done trooper!!!!
